>> We once had a rifle range requal In the tail end of a typhoon in Philippines. You could barely see the target at 500yds and the range flags were sticking straight out. Our CO told us "war didn't wait on the weather". <<

You should get an M-60 stuck in that soup, dragging tow cables will suck your legs dry

Looks like Jungle Warfare Training Course (JWTC) in Okinawa. I embraced all that stuff. I remember qualifying on the M240 right after a big rain. At the crew serve weapons ranges there is a pit that gets worn in the dirt where you have to lay prone to fire. Your A-gunner has to lay half way on top of your back to direct your fire so you both get drenched.
I loved that stuff and it was a good character builder. I’ll lay or sit down anywhere now if we are out somewhere where there no seating. People don’t lay in the dirt anymore. Society has become less human. Who needs furniture!

Boots bloused, shirts tucked in, sleeves down...F it. Lay in the mud! We'd take our spare socks and put them over our hands and our extra T-shirt and put it over our heads and tuck everything in for the night. You could hear the bugs all night but they wouldn't get you bad if you were all buttoned up. I'm glad I live in So.Cal, not a bug issue here...I hate F'n flying biting bugs!

My USMC niece is being promoted on Monday to Major. Her ceremony will be held in the USMC Memorial at Arlington. Semper Fi!

I have a pastor friend whose son was promoted in the field several times. Now, he is a Cavalry Scout and his latest assignment is a drill sergeant. He was a troubled kid at first, but now, he's grown into a fine young man. We are all proud of him.

It's like USAF Survival school. All aircrew members had to attend. It lasted 2 weeks. There was about 8 days of classroom, a 2 day POW camp simulation and a 3 day "Out in the wilderness" real survival part. The course was at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA. for the wilderness part, they bussed us up to a national forest near the Canadian border. We had instructors, and if something bad happened, they had radios, but we were out on in the sticks. The school operated in rain, snow, heat, etc.

Congratulations to her and your family.

My niece is in the Marine Corp Reserve out of Savannah, GA and will be promoted to Gunnery Sargent this fall. My brother is a Marine from the 1980's and we couldn't be prouder of her. She out-ranks her dad now.

My hat's off to all of you veterans. You go through some ****.

Awesome

At our church we are very "service member' minded

During all the major holidays we try to acknowledge our service men, but we have yet to have the honor of acknowledging a member of the coastguard

If hes ever looking for a church in Holland Michigan, send him my way

You haven't lived until you do basic at PI (Paris Island) in August! Separates the men from the boys. No "Hollywood" Marine here! Congrats on her promotion!

My Niece was at Parris Island in August with a hurricane.

Parris Island October 14, 2016 (from about July 15, 2016), hurricane Matthew just passed through, base was evacuated to a nearby base. Not your typical graduation, recruits were in their Cammies not the normal Blue Dress (maybe the first and only time). My Niece is the third after her brother and cousin. She is still in reupped recently, her brother was in and out and her cousin has reupped a couple time and is still in.

A WM went through both MC basic training camps, San Diego originally where she broke her leg 2 weeks before graduation and then WM recovery platoon at Parris Island where she had to do it all over again. When asked what basic was harder, she said San Diego was harder physically (humping hills) but P.I was harder mentally (did not elaborate), take that inferior 'Hollywood Marine' crap and hump it.

My good buddy was a Hollywood Marine. He served from Vietnam through Desert Storm. His Marine Dad was wounded in a kamikaze attack on the USS Nashville in December '44. His Marine father was a veteran of Belleau Wood. My friend said it wasn't where you were trained but what you did with it.
And yes, Infantry school at Fort Benning in August is brutal on Yankee boys!
