Dr. Diffs shipping cost.

-
I just ordered last week a Mopar 8 3/4" (8.75) Nodular Iron 489 Casting 489 housing for 275.00 and the shipping was 100.00 smackers . I said oooh it will be here fast. I figured that cost would be next day or 2 days but nope it the slow shipping freight. Add those 2 together and now you have the full price.
I sent a 489 suregrip unit via FedEx freight due to the weight, just under 110.
I deal with shipping items across the county for work every day, even with our commercial shipping discount, we are still paying over double what we were when I started here in August 2021. We’ve had 3/4 of our contractors break their shipping contracts with us because those contracts were actually causing them to ship at a loss for us.

Cass aka Dr Diff is much smaller than us. And we aren’t that large ourselves, just do enough to qualify for the first tier shipping discounts. His rates aren’t set by him, like Mancini’s and others small time shops.

shipping costs are up everywhere even ups . just sent a blower to my builder to check out it was @70 bucks shipping , but now its @150 bucks shipping for the same item . but again i could not drive there for that costs . just makes the car game more costly .

Every time I get on Rock Auto!
They are one of the worst. They ding you for shipping from every warehouse if you have multiple parts. Then, if you have a core to return, shipping comes out of the refund.

I feel like some of these vendors over-inflate shipping costs and call it "handling".

I'm sorry but a few washers do not cost $11 to ship

I ordered an $3.00 "O" ring and it cost me $6.00 to ship. An envelope and a stamp would of worked fine. I guess it costs $5.50 to handle the "O" ring.

Maybe some are charging handling fees but all I know is, I mailed a check thru USPS, priority mail. 27 bucks. **** ain’t cheap these days folks. You all need to maybe focus on the cause of all this. I’ll give you a hint, it all starts in a limestone building.

This was a problem even before the changing of the guard

In my experience Cass (Dr Diff) has always treated me fairly and been very responsive to any issues. I just purchased a green bearing and seal from him and it cost me 10$ shipping. I didn't have a problem with that check what it would cost from say rock auto. They are a BIG company and negotiate reduced shipping from the major carriers.
Rock autos shipping is getting stupid..

On the flipside, that is why I sell most of my surplus auto parts on local craigslist. I don't know a way to ship at prices which big guys and especially Chinese sellers get. I don't care to deal with buyers who fuss about a shipping price, but can't tell me how I can ship it them cheaper.

On the flipside, back ~2005 I got a Tremec 6-speed via a shipper (FedEx, forget) but not the minivan transmission I had bought. I kept trying to return it to them, and they picked it up once, but they phoned saying "not properly packaged". Told them that's how it came to me. I said if they returned it, I would sell it, and they returned it. Sold it for $700 on ebay (cheap for a Tremec) and only cost $70 to ship it from CA to AZ via DHL air. I just put it on the conveyer belt w/ label at the nearly DHL air facility. All others wanted >$300. Soon after, DHL stopped local shipping in U.S. BTW, the used minivan transmission I bought showed up unannounced 3 months later in my driveway.
That tremec would have got stuffed in the Duster!

Anything light/small enough that can be shipped with a stamp is not trackable. In other words, it is impossible to confirm if it was shipped or received.

My website will ONLY calculate a correct shipping quote BEFORE checkout if you enter your COMPLETE shipping address. If you leave details out, it will default to the most expensive option.

How are the 90s Dak style masters doing these days? Last I heard on here, you were out? P.S.
Man, Shipping is Jacked up all over, I ain't ever heard ANYTHING but good about Your Parts, Your Tech, OR your Business manners.

I wanted to get some stuff today. I ordered a lightweight 15/16 master cylinder with the 2 bolt to adapter 4 and small to big ball joint bushings, that came to $182 with tax, shipping+ handling...$65. Sorry Doc I'm getting a second opinion.

Did you enter the COMPLETE address. As in, city, state, and zip? If you leave info off, it defaults to the most expensive - probably due to some funky software algorithm or something out of his control. I just went on to purchase those same items and it was 12 bucks and change for shipping. If I left the "State" field blank, it jumped to $65.

Maybe that is what happened to me. I've always want to order stuff, that is considered "better". If I was 20 and going to keep a car for 50 years... maybe, but I'm 67 and okay is good enough for me, so I buy used or from eBay and Amazon where you can find great deals and shipping is usually free.

At 67, that is the more reason be buy the better parts. How much longer do you plan on crawling under your car. I"LL WALK A MILE FOR A "MOOG"!!!!!

I did just get all Moog parts to rebuild my front end from Amazon...free shipping. Crawling around under my car helps me get a good night's sleep.

Crawling under the car is easy, It's getting back up is the trick. MOOG is the way to go, just wish you could buy just their grease cups.

USPS is going to be raising their rates in October, anywhere from .30 cents to $5.90, to mail packages, depending on weight, size, distance, from point A, to point B.
So if the USPS rates are going up, FEDEX, and UPS, won't be far behind, too.
