Pike county was moist when I was there. You could buy anything inside city limits besides on Sundays. But yea, we would drive over to Williamson WV on Sundays.
So… my first time underground. North American Coal, Quarto #7 Mine, Powhatan Point, Ohio. The mines usually did maintenance work on weekends. A couple of us from Joy went to do welding work on their longwall. When we were done after 12 or 16 hours, 19 of us piled on a mine transport car that MSHA said can ride 4 people max.
A couple minutes into the ride someone yells CHICKEN. Everyone shut their headlamps off and the transport headlights. So we’re hauling *** thru total darkness, seemed like 100 mph. Guys are sitting on the handrails, roof is inches from their heads, even less where belt conveyors cross at 90 degrees.
That was fun.
