I'll trade you my ____ for your Dodge

2005 Camry 166k sitting in driveway with no plates. I replaced several parts: gas tank, struts, brakes, control arms, complete exhaust and other smalls. Guy pulls up asking if it was for sale. I went on about all the work I did etc...He insisted all the brakes would have to re -replaced due to it sitting as he was in the auto business for 35 years. No way around it and would cost me thousands. (Even if that were true brakes are inexpensive anyway) I paid 2,800, put another 1k in parts as it needed upkeep and rusted out parts replaced. When I asked what he would give me his reply was $200 and said the car wasnt worth anything. My reply, "You are out of you effing mind" the car was put back on the road, rides fine and I did NOTHING to the brakes.
It occurred to me later he was probably a scrapper and most likely has taken clear advantage of people insisting them they GIVE them their car and talk his way into it. I have an automotive background and I'm no dummy. It aggravated me for days thereafter.
Oddly enough, people have said similar things about my Duster (street/strip) that it wasnt "worth anything"

I spotted a unique motorcycle rim sticking out of a local scrapper's pickup a few years back. I took a look....Yamaha RZ350. This one was roached and likely stolen, but the motor was complete. I offered $100 and I think I gave $120. The motor is worth about $800.

If it isn't for sale, I generally tread lightly if I go so far as to approach people about it. That stuff puts me right into the redline, but I do it to others.....
