Just phoned Melling, asked what is the expected ETA on a M-72 pump. "No known availability date" How about @Johnny Mac , you having troubles getting these things?

In stock at Autozone near me. Try them local to you. It is standard pump for Mopar small blocks, so check your local parts houses. Not sure if things are different up north.

Edited to add, part number K-72 is the internal rebuild parts, if you have an old housing. That is also currently available.

Try Northern Auto parts. Northern Auto Parts: Home

We only use the hv pumps, but yes, they are hens teeth right now.

Being that the other thread regarding Melling oil pumps is now, "Not open for further replies". This is this afternoon's reply from Melling, regarding: M72, M72HV, M77, M77HV, and M77G, "No known availability date, maybe mid-December". M77's are BBC pumps by the way. Also, camshaft stock is, "no cores/ billets". This is just an FYI , I'm sure there's more to come, that is, NOT to come/ empty shelves.

Better start stockin up boys. I've been trying to do it with slant 6 stuff. It's been drying up for some time.

Whatever happened to rebuilding/refreshing parts like this? If you have an old pump it might be a good time (if you haven’t already or considered) to crack it open and inspect/check clearances and possibly refresh/modify as needed. Of course in a bolt-on ootb world that would require having a FSM and a little bit of ability/desire.

That's what I almost said. Are kits even available? I modify stock used slant 6 oil pumps by cleaning them up, polishing the rotors and adding the Mopar big block/slant 6 high pressure spring. Then I wrap them in plastic and stick them on the shelf. I have several like that and several more cores to do.

Sounds like you’re a “Slant Six Prepper”

While on the phone with "Melling" earlier today, Yes, I did ask about the availability of "K72", rebuild kit for a SBM oil pump. Reply, "more than 100 in stock". That'll hold some of us over 'till we gota buy that Electrolux.

Summit has them as well. I rebuilt the original oil pump in my 56 model 331 Hemi when I built that engine a few years back and that kit was hard to find then.

Summit is expecting to receive some mopar high volume pumps on Monday.

Just rebuild one .
You should go thru new pumps anyway . Clean them up , check clearance and smooth out the passages .

Just purchased 2 of the good Melling M72 stock volume oil pumps from different sellers on ebay.

Needless to say post #20 is no longer available.

Thank You for the heads up on the short supply. Bases Covered
