Just wondering if any of you have American Collector Insurance for you car and if so are you happy? Pros and cons.. I currently have Grundy in which I have been with for 18 years but their rate has gone up tremendously. I can go with the above company and for the exact same coverage I can save over $140/year

Just dropped American Collector and went to Haggerty.

1. No mileage limits
2. No limits on when you can drive
3. Saved a few bucks

I never had a claim so no insights there

If I may ask what was the reason for leaving American Collector?

We have Shelter insurance for everything. On the antique insurance they let me decide the value I want them insured up to, they just want a couple pictures. No driving limits, no appraisal just, drive them whenever.

The policy limited when you could operate the car.

Eligible Usage:
Classic car insurance policies allow the classic car to be used for the following types of activities.

  • Hobby-related purposes (e.g., car shows, club activities/functions, exhibitions, parades, tours, organized meets, etc.).
  • Occasional pleasure-use driving.
  • Infrequently for any other type of general use.

You also have to choose a mileage tier for the policy which although simple is not something I want to have placed on me.

Those two things had me looking to begin with then the lower cost sealed it

Others may not care for the "no racing" clause or if your classic is your daily driver they don't cover those either

Hope that helps

I can not say enough good things about NCM (National Corvette Muesem) classic car insurance.
I have my Cuda insured with them at $45k replacement value and it's $250 a year.......been with them for 20 years (originally with my Stingray).

Thanks. My 71 is an Antique and not classic so my mileage plan is 2500/yr which is way higher than what I usually drive. My coverages are pretty much the same that I have had for the last 18 years So for the big money that I will be saving I guess I will just have to give them a shot...

Here you are able to. Register a car over 25 years in age as a classic or as an antique.

A classic you can drive whenever you like. An antique.is weekends, shows and club events.

Thats pretty much all I do with an occassional cruise around the block..

i have American collectors.. been good to me so far but i haven't had to make any claims.

I think at the end of the day, barring a very poor claim experience, if the insurance you get meets your needs and you're comfortable with the price point then it's good....

I have American on two cars with one claim which was handled quickly and no fuss.

I dropped American collectors just before Carlisle because they told me my car would not be covered if parked in the hotel parking lot overnight. So if all you do is drive your cars to shows then I guess you’re fine but if periodically you drive somewhere and want to park overnight they won’t insure your car while it’s parked. They had a tent set up at the Carlisle show so I asked and was told the same. Went back to Hagerty. They even insure my 22 Challenger.

I talked to my insurance agent about this and from what I've found out it cost about $100 - $150 per 10k of coverage. No deductible, depreciation, no mileage limit

Will they write a policy for a daily driver?

I expect that.

Who? I'm screwed if I can't find a company.
I went to my insurance agent. I said that l probably would be using the car as a daily driver and they said that was okay. We have auto owners insurance

I switched from Hagerty to American Collectors last year because the definition of "pleasure use" was less restrictive in the American Collectors' policy than in my old Hagerty policy. The cost was cheaper for the American Collectors' policy too. I haven't ever filed a claim, so I can't comment on that.

Auto...owners? I don't think they write policies here.
I don't know how many states that they are in. I go through a insurance broker and every company that he deals with offers classic car insurance. As I said earlier they are cheaper and no limits on driving or coverage.

Well being with the same Ins Co since 2004 and if I can save $160/yr for the exact same coverage I guess this would be a no brainer for me to change in which I am planning on doing..I have done quite alot of research on American Collector Ins and I have heard a lot of positives....
