I'm thinking of buying this engine and transmission to rebuild. Is there anything that alarms anyone in the pictures. Seller claims 1967 273, looks like the Trans is a 64 to me. Block is stamped C273.if

I'm not totally sure, but. Trans looks like a 727. If that is the case, and the engine is a 1967, you might have an issue using that trans with that engine. Slant six and small blocks had a smaller diameter crank pocket untill 1968, when the pocket was made larger. All 727 trans had converters that fit the large crank pocket, and will not fit the early/small engine.
The red/orange paint on the valve covers makes me think it was re-sprayed blue at some point.
1967 should be the last year for solid cam.So pull a valve cover and look for the adjustable rockers (they go for $250 to $350 now a days.) You didn't say the asking price.We recently found a 70 318/904 for $750 that was in the car and running before they pulled it for us. I believe that was a good price.Your plan on doing a rebuild on both means try for the best price/core price.

It looks like a 67 or newer 273 2 barrel according to the valve covers. Pull a cover off. Up to and including 67, 273's had a solid lifter cam and adjustable rockers. 68 and 69's had a hydraulic cam and stamp steel non adjustable rockers. Look around for casting dates on the block. Depending on what you want to do with it it really doesn't matter what it is. The transmission looks like a 727 and 66 or newer because of the slip yoke tailshaft.

If you plan to use that 727 along with the 273, you can get the register in the tail end of the crank enlarged while the crank is out during the rebuild. That way, the pilot hub on the front of the converter will fit and work.

C273 makes it a 67 model year engine.

Thank you all for the information! They're asking $600. Just as some of you pointed out, they didn't mention the trans and engine are a pair, just selling both for $600. Based on Darter 6' s post I think I'll pass on it, here's the link in case anyone else might be interested. It's near Detroit, MI

Looks like a small block 727. I can't tell exact year, but, if it's a slip yoke type (I don't see any cables or flanged output) it's most likely a '66-7 version seeing that it looks like it uses a bolt-in type dip stick tube.
600 is pretty steep in my neck of the woods.

It's funny how when a good opportunity like this is knocking, I can't decide what to do. My car is a solid cruiser with a mild super slant 6, but I'm infatuated with the sound of a good V8.
