From what I’ve seen people do. They are pie cutting the top and adding a piece of their old quarter panel to get that gap closer

I hope Steve will chime in here, but yes; the stamping slips, or the die is just a little off. I had to do that to my Demon, and I've seen a few build threads with the same issue.
