Stupid machining question -cylinder head

I seem to recall when I was a kid the NAPA store in town resurfaced cylinder heads by setting them on a black and decker belt sander with some sort of jig.
Or am I losing my mind?
No, your not.
At one of the repair shops that i wrenched at, in the dinosaur days, the shop owner had a giant belt sander machine, that was used to resurface cylinder heads.
Aluminum, or cast iron.
Didn't matter.
It was water cooled, on the belt, when turning on the machine.
Used it lots of times, when i was employed there.
