Thermoquad primary well casting in rough shape - is it okay?

I'm rebuilding the Thermoquad from my '72 Duster 340, and the the air horn casting in the primary fuel well (not sure what to call this) seems to be in rough shape on both sides. Do y'all think this will seal? I hit it really lightly with a sanding block just to bring up the highlights so that the unevenness is easier to see in the pics. Shiny = flat, dark = sunken.

Might seal. If it doesn't, it will be rich & smelly at idle.
If it was my carb: I would emery the casting & remove 0.005". Then with the black centre section, remove the same amount from the top using emery paper, rubbing on a flat surface.
 
Well, we're not going to find out if it would have sealed since I cracked a fuel passage installing one of the aluminum plugs :BangHead:
So now I get to try and refurbish the air horn off of the original carb, which is not in quite as good of shape...

The original air horn cleaned up better than expected. Despite looking awful on the outside, the inside was much better - including the fuel well casting. Those should seal perfectly. Overall, the worst part of the air horn is just a little aluminum corrosion on the main gasket surface, but I think it'll seal okay.

If you want to clean it up even better, get some house hold paint stripper & brush it on. Leave for 15 min then remove with bristle brush & water.

I'm not arguin it might be fun, but how's a stripper gonna clean a carburetor?

Update: works well enough that the old girl fired right up and idled! (After I found and reconnected a disconnected wire.) Last ran 5 years ago per previous owner. Been off the road 15 years, so brakes are next after I do an oil change and add some coolant.
