Police station My senior year and until I joined the Navy, I worked as a "radio operator" (now dispatcher) about this time. The teletype, much hated by the staff was gone by the time I was there
Below, I spent time here!! The old radio was on what they call "low band VHF" which is 30-50mhz, just above CB and the Amateur 10 meter band. So yeh, it can skip. In the summer you could sometimes hear far off systems.
Along with the radio, there were TWO count them TWO phone lines!! We handled the ENTIRE CITY HALL!!! The treasurer, water dept, library, I have forgotten what else. There was a judge and traffic court there as well. TWO phone lines!!! I believe part of the offices had their own dedicated lines, but public incoming so far as I know, all came in to "us"
