Personally based on what you wrote above I would put a few dollars in the J heads and forget the Speedmasters. Just remember to use the KISS method or you'll end up spending a lot of money for something that's not needed in this application.
Cleaned up iron heads will still produce more power than you'll likely be able to hookup on street tires anyway and still be fun to drive.
