Bronze fuel pump push rod

I'm wondering if I can revive this thread with a pushrod issue on my 68 Dart. I just had an Edelbrock top end kit installed on my 383 by a shop, and I started having fuel delivery issues shortly thereafter. I found that the fuel pump pushrod was the issue after I tried a new fuel pump; the pushrod was not changed with the new kit, and it has been worn down considerably (about 1/4") from the stock length on the cam end (see photos). It worked fine for years with the old cam, but failed right away with the new top end. The shop recommends installing a electric fuel pump/block off plate now to avoid any more damage or issues. My concern is that the metal shavings from the pushrod inside the case could do damage. Any advice to prevent any additional issues other than change the oil and filter? Thanks!
