I bought a bright red GTI to avoid having a car that's the same color as the road like most are these days. Did it help? Heck no. I think the bright color causes people to pull out in front of me.
I had a guy back out of a parking space, across a traffic aisle, and right into it. I was sitting in it listening to the stereo. By the time I realized what was about to happen it was too late to blow the horn but I did anyway.
The moral of the story - there is no sure-fire protection against an idiot.
