What trans was in the Dakota ? 88-03 V-8's were Magnum's. Superior to the 360 they replaced.
Both were externally balanced so if you use that older 904 you will need a converter that is weighted.
Post 1970 transmissions are much better.

Magnums didn't come out until 1992 for the 318 and 1993 for the 360's.
The "Roller LA's" are 1989 - 1992 for the 360 and about 1987-88 to 1991 for 318's (one of the old books I've read mentioned Roller LA 318's as early as 1985, I have yet to confirm)
The A999 I pulled out of the 1988 diplomat had a Roller LA 318 in it.
And the Roller cammed LA 360 came out of a 1991 Ramcharger.
Both now residing in my duster.
