Yes to a point. You have to have enough care about it to treat it right and maintain it, IE not lose it in an IKEA couch like that one Moron did last year. Otherwise, you’d be bette tiff carrying a Saturday night special.
I used to carry my 1911 until i turned it into a match gun, then it went to the M&P 9s , which coincidentally the local PD carries still so mags locally are available to buy new and used everywhere . Now it’s the G42. The m&p still rides shotgun though when I go big cities. Mostly for the capacity .
