Interesting idea. It would require surface reconditioning or at least cam to tappet integrity. It can be done at home but would need a surfacing plate.
Most valve grinding machines have a tappet surfacing system, but it requires operator experience, & knowing for sure the lobe taper of the cam it's destined to be used on.
