A230 3-speed

From the looks of that one thrust washer, I'd be checking over the case pretty closely, and resetting the endplay as may likely be required. Your case may need repairs to prevent that washer from spinning again.

BTW
the A833 overdrive, is a 3plus1, with similar ratios to the Slanty A230 ..... and it has all the A833 style guts, except there are two available mainshafts, the V-8 which uses the 727 yoke, and the slanty, which uses the 904 yoke..
And best of all, you can usually score them cheap. But it will require a different shifter, which might cost more than the box, lol..
The od box ratios are;
3.09-1.67-1.00-.73od
To get Second gear where you want it usually requires 3.91s in the back, which is the equivalent then, of 2.85 in overdrive, which is awesome!. The starter gear with 3.91s is an outrageous 12.08, so expect to have to install some traction aid(s), lol
If your engine has gobs of low-rpm torque, like a hi-compression360, you can use less than a 3.91 rear gear, to get even less cruise rpm..

There are two A230 ratio sets, that I know of;
2.55-1.49-1.00, splits of .584-.671; and
3.08-1.70-1.00, splits of .552-.588; Check out all the splits.
I think the 2.55 was for V8s and the slanty got the other one, but don't quote me, lol.

I had a 318-3spd Duster with the low 3.08 first gear between the bucket seats and 3.21’s out back. *I think* it was a ‘73. Also having a moon roof and fold down rear seat. It was pretty peppy off the line for a bone stock 318.
