M1 Tunnel Ram Top Plenum Volume Reduction with Photos

Well I guess I got a tunnel ram and worked on it before I had to much of an idea of how things effect the engine by having one and the things I have read I forgot. Mine made the best torque and hp numbers however with a 2 inch super sucker tapered spacer. Open spacers killed 24 HP.
I guess I need to study some more about plenum volume and rpm. Plenum volume and carb sizing, what makes a carb act bigger or smaller.
Supposedly bigger plenum is better with smaller carbs, big carbs small plenum. If it’s too big car will not launch hard or be lazy on gear changes. I have some articles from bill jenkins and they greatly reduced plenum volumes even though they were way over 8000, but the engines were small and short stroke. Lot of give and take I guess. Also length and what harmonic wave you’re aiming for makes a big difference. Play with this calculator for tuned rpm ranges
