Ammeter bypass

Going to be doing the ammeter bypass adding a wire directly fron the alternator to starter relay. Also want to delete the ammeter altogether. Are the ammeter wires reachable to remove and join together do so under the dash or does the cluster have to come out?
Only asking because I've got a bad back and front seat needs to come out if I need to get under there. It's a 74 Duster. Thanks
Boy can I relate to this!

After doing this so many times its not funny , here's my routine.

1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Remove the steering wheel

3. Drop the steering wheel column by removing the nuts that attach the column to the dash

4. Remove the headlight switch . Switch stem is removed by pressing release tab on top of the switch.

You can see it here just above the threaded hole.

5. Take out the Philips screws holding the cluster and you will be able to access the instrument cluster wiring including the black and red ammeter wiring.

Cheers!
