Re-Purposed Crashed Laptop, SS Drive
Quite literally a crashed laptop that fell off a roof of a car, and was run over multiple times.
Found it laying in the road, at a busy intersection when going out to eat a month ago.
Stripped it down to harvest the 512 gb Solid State (chip > hard drive) out of it, was still good yet.
Little thin technology about the width of your thumb, with big 512 gb storage. Out of a 3 year old Windows 10 laptop.
Tried to read the data off of it, but was encrypted with Bitlocker Encryption. So wiped it clean to reuse it.
Got a USB > M.2 NVMe Solid State Drive SSD Enclosure for the solid state chip. Now I can use it for a large 500 gb thumb drive that I can carry in my pocket.
Can easily put the last 20 years of Mopar Pictures on it with plenty of room to spare for other data.
Just to show how small and handy this is, here are comparisons of other hard drives. Plugs into a Standard USB computer port, not needing a separate power supply.
From the left a Sata 3.5" 80 gb hard drive, silver.
Next center is the big black 500 gb External Hard Drive, that needs Wall Power, and a USB cable to move the data.
A dime there for size comparison.
Then the PNY Solid State Drive (120 gb) 500 gb are common also for this size SSD. For the earlier laptops, where you could easily remove the drives. They are fast, no moving parts, and run cool, long life also.
Then last is the small repurposed 512 gb SSD and USB enclosure.
Technology sure has come a long way in the last 25 years.
Being able to cram all that data in such a small space.
Think I might make up a few more of these, so handy.
