YES. Utterly ridiculous. Not sure how much weight would be saved by milling the fins off but it can't be that much. They are just really heavy castings plus they are sitting high up in the front. I searched high and low for these things and paid good money for them so no going back now but yeah, I was pretty upset about the weight. I try to save weight wherever I can and these were like 4 steps backwards.
I will most likely end up using allen head bolts like suggested but I figured it can't hurt to ask first.
