Magnum 5.2 & Doug's D453 Header Fitment Issues
hey everyone, thanks again for the replies and info. i finally took some time last week and got things squared away with the engine mounting and the header fitment is pretty well resolved now.
first thing i did was get a level reference across the flat spot inside the tops of the fenders up near the cowl then i checked the engine and yeah, the passenger side was way too low. i wound up shimming the passenger side up 1/4". i also extended the k frame mount hole forward about the width of a cut off wheel because the mount was visibly twisted.
even with shimming the passenger side up, that still didn't have the engine in the right spot left to right so i used a porta power and shoved the engine over towards the passenger side. doing this got the left to right alignment better but then dropped the driver side so that needed an 1/8" shim.
last thing i checked was engine/trans longitudinal angle. i took a zero reference angle off the bottom of the front frame stub and then measured the front crank bolt. angle was initially just shy of 5 degrees. i added a 3/16" shim under the trans mount and now the angle is closer to 4 degrees.
i also trimmed the plastic bushing at the end of the steering column housing. with all these adjustment, the headers basically fit perfectly. i will say one thing that really impressed me about the Doug's headers is that this is the first set of headers i've ever installed ever in my life that didn't need the mounting holes drilled or honed or oblonged out to get the headers to fit. that's pretty incredible for an overseas manufactured set of headers IMO. my father in law put TTI headers on the 6.1 hemi that we put in his '63 Fury and there were multiple mounting hole that were off and had to be drilled out.
