Are you positive the intake to exhaust is indeed together good, do you have the two bolted together at the carb base ??
AND IF i am reading this right you have an aluminum 2 barrel intake ? 1/16th of an inch can get wiggled out because of the long bolt going threw the intake to exhaust, loosen it (bolt threw the intake to exhaust) temporary bolt to engine and pull up snug, get a picture of the two mating area below the cab to exhaust matting area..
