At work and doing historical research as a hobby... Primary sources are essential as a baseline. It's tough to argue the "experience" perspective with innumerable humans having had different experiences. It's nice when someone does an engineering/ scientific method and comparison to provide data as opposed to "use this or your a dummy" approach.
