Got a favorite dog breed? Which one and why?
Shih Tzus for me. I never wanted or had a dog until Dec, 2008. We got 6 week old Riley for my wife's niece who lived with us. I thought he was pitiful. Full of worms and had fleas. I thought he would probably die nd I would be out $300. Right from the start, he would bite your fingers if you got close enough to him. The niece wasn't crazy about him. I had a lot to learn about dogs. I took over the responsibility. Before long I wouldn't take a million dollars for him.
Three years later we got 17 week old Belle. She was beautiful, smart, and came with manners. She would look to me for approval before she would do most anything. If I opened a door, she wouldn't step through it until I told her to. I did not train her for that.
I lost them both in 2024. My heart was crushed. I never wanted to go through that again.
I cried at least once a day for a week, then occasionally for the next month. There were no smiles or happiness in our home. After nearly 3 months, I was only looking at pictures. I kept going back to one in particular. Sophie. Talked to the breeder, made a deal, and picked her up the next day. Now she means almost everything to me. She is my shadow. I rarely go anywhere without her.
