Installing door jamb switches

Another battle reassembling my '70 Dart...the new door jamb switches I bought are too small. I seems my car takes the large 1/4" npt nla switches and not the 1/8 npt switches. On the passenger side I have one of the old large ones and I made an adaptor to fit a new 1/8" npt switch for the drivers side. Wiring....on the driver's side I see two yellow wires in a bullet connector in the kick panel area. Is there supposed to be a pigtail going to the switch? On the passenger side I found the original large diameter 2 prong switch dangling with its wires connected to the harness wrapped with electrical tape (some old splice I guess). I don't see how you could install these without a pigtail to feed through, connect to the switch, thread in the switch and then make the connection in the kick panel area. Is this how it was done?
