In 1971 NASCAR instituted the 305 rule for aero cars.
Mario Rossi dropped a Kieth Black 305 Trans-Am engine into his Daytona, and with Dick Brooks at the helm took 7th place in the 1971 Daytona 500 despite being involved in an early crash that put him 2 laps down.
It was the final appearance of a Daytona/Superbird in NASCAR.
