My search for a shorty D100 is over

Upon closer inspection this entire debacle could possibly be my own damn fault. Or maybe the fault of the guy building the converters, we’ll see. Looking at the converter, the pads for bolting to the flexplate are very shallow. Like 3/16”. The bolts I’m using are 1/2”. The thickness of the flexplate is like 1/16”. All of the bolts punched through the converter and hit the clutch. I think the pads are wrong. When bolting it up in the truck, the converter has to pull forward like 3/4” . The 904 converter I have here has HUGE pads compared to this one. If anyone knows the dimensions of the bolt pads on a 46re converter please chime in. I’ll know more tomorrow hopefully. Last pic is a 904 converter.

So are you thinking the bolts are bottoming out and when tightening them, they are flexing the converter inward? The one pic doesnt look bottomed out but 1/2" would be too long. Or if pulling ahead 3/4" is it coming out of the pump to not engage well? I am not a transmission guy either, just thinking out loud. Atta boy on getting it back out already, I'd have done the same.
