Has anyone swapped a Holley in place of an Edelbrock on a 340?
And then you get to tune the Holley.........
In my 11/1, Eddy-headed 367 is a similar Hughes cam, and I run an Airgap, currently, with a Holley. I like it.
But, that engine has run two other intakes and about 4 other carbs, including a TQ and a Carter AVS . All of them required tuning. All of them were ok with my timing curve, maybe because it was doggone close, lol.
If you have BOTH a tip-in hesitation and a bog, then fix the tip-in sag first.
That cam , with a manual trans, will NOT like hiway gears from a dead-stop. Nor a low stall convertor.
I run a 3.09 low gear, and 3.55s giving me a starter-gear of ~11/1, which is more than adequate, with my Hi-Torque 367.
If your asking your 340 to go WOT at sub 2000, yur gonna have to slow those Secondaries down. The Primaries of a 600 are good to near 3000 rpm, so not much sense having the secondaries go WOT too much before then. It's just gonna cause the airspeed to crash.
If you wanna drive like that, (I mean sure I do) then yes, get a Double Pumper, and be be prepared to modulate your gas-pedal to Not blow the tires off. and
don't get angry when you find out that your fuel-consumption has gone way up. And put some money away to cover the tickets that you might get, lol
