My 422 smallblock build

Long overdue update.
I think I finally got the pushrod issue resolved and I will be updating my other thread about that with more info. I’ve been putting street miles on the car and working on the tune up for the past couple months. Finally got to the track last night for the first time with this new engine.
The first pass off the trailer was an absolute **** show. It blew the tires off at the hit and the shifter jammed when I tried to hit second. My hand was so sweaty that it slipped off the handle when I tried to pull second. Like I said, **** show. Ran it out the back at 14.something at 110mph. Embarrassing to say the least.

Checked tire pressure in the Nitto drag radials- holy **** - 30psi! Dropped tire pressure to 20psi and set the Rancho shocks all the way soft. Second pass wasn’t much better. Blew the tires off at the hit but the rest of the run was relatively smooth except that the clutch pedal decided to try and leave its perch. The E-clip that holds the pedal pivot shaft in place had popped off and it started to slide out and **** to the side. I didn’t really notice it until I started slowing down at the end of the track and I pushed the clutch in and it went cockeyed to the floor. Managed a 12.something at 116mph. Going the right direction at least. IMG_6823.jpeg

Back to the pits. Fixed the clutch pedal issue and dropped tire pressure to 17psi. The first 2 runs I wasn’t leaving on the 2-step, just kind of giving it a couple blips while the lights were coming down. For the 3rd pass I decided to leave on the 2-step and set it to 3400rpm. I do my burn out and roll into the beams. Set the line lock and when the top yellow comes on I mat it and the fuckin thing goes to the 6000 rpm limiter! Never stopped at the 2-step rpm. So I started to back out a little but the lights were coming down so I floored it again and launched. It spun the tires a little less this time but it also drove through the clutch a little bit and I think that actually helped some resulting in the best pass so far. 11.98 @ 116 mph. IMG_6824.jpeg

If I can get it to make a clean launch and some tuning I think there’s an 11.50 in it.

To be continued….
