When I bought my place in 2000 it had a 30x40 shop already. Unfortunately, some PO put in a workroom 10' wide down the long side of the shop, reducing the shop space to 20x40. It's gotten me by till now but ho-lee-crap was it ever a challenge to get anything done. I had to slither sideways everywhere to get around, and move 2-3 things to get at the thing I wanted. There was no horizontal surface that wasn't deep in piled up crap. Here's my current ****-show.
I finally decided to do two additions to make the shop workable. I added a 12x30 workroom behind, and a 20x40 carport on the side - which holds 4 cars easily. The shop has a mini-split for heat/AC, and the workroom has a small propane radiant heater and a (free from a friend!) portable A/C unit I can hook up at the exterior door.
I think we all know, the amount of crap you own will expand to meet all available storage space. Well, not this time. The workroom will be for storage and things I don't use much, freeing up the shop to actually use it as a shop. Go figure. Here are some progress pictures.
Here is the new workroom. It doesn't show the passthrough door yet but it's been cut out.
The old shop is getting a new roof which will match the new one. Pretty snazzy stuff for this hillbilly. The new shop roof is half done, the other side will get done when we get about two days break in the rain. Haha.
