The radio works using the factory speaker wiring setup I'm assuming.

You said you plugged the chip into another "stereo".

This is where I think your problem is, going from the wiring setup for stereo vs the mono output and associated ground for a factory AM radio.

Is it possible you soldered the green wire to a left channel output and the black to a right channel output terminal??
