Blue Print Hemi
I was put off by what appeared to be required to fit the G3 into one of our A-Bodies. I didn't research to deeply, but at first glance it looks pretty extensive and very expensive to update the front suspension to allow it to fit.
Almost everything has compromises, just depends on what compromises you want to accept. Even spending a ton of money comes with compromises. Pick your poison.
A significant outlay of cash to buy a COC would kill the swap for me. Thankfully it isn’t the only way, so I can still make it happen.
Now, time has marched on and there are options that might not have been available when you were looking. When TTI and Schumacher were the only options, PS wasn’t something you could have and a remote oil filter was (almost) required. But now you can run a Borgeson box and TTI headers, and people have come up with options to make the oil filter better. If you wanted AC, the truck TC cover was the best option, but now you can buy a whole FEAD kit from Holley (for a bunch of money) that makes everything fit. Or do a custom mount for a different AC compressor like some have done now.
I went the route of Holley mounts for the spool mount V8 k-frame that allows me to bolt in a G3 with just some frame rail mods for the alternator but allow me to keep the low mount car AC compressor, use a oil filter adapter that bolts on and keep the SRV module on my 6.4 intake. But it means the motor is in a different location and less optimal. It’s the compromise I was willing to live with.
It’s complex, kind of like most things.
As I said, I didn't look too deeply into the cost of the front suspension swap to a coil over K-frame conversion, but that adds about $2500+ to the swap, No?
Try more like $5k. Without the aftermarket brakes you have to buy, and sometimes without a sway bar (if you care about that).
To be clear, I’m not saying a COC doesn’t make it easier, they free up a ton of room. But they have their compromises, and not just the cost (IMO).
