Fixing rust holes with filler??

Ill second that unless the rust is cut out a patch welded in then skimmed over with filler, the repair wont last long. This is from experience doing it the way the op did it. It looks good for a while then the paint starts bubbling up again . Its ok for a short term daily driver .I actually have a 2011 Escape with the common quarter rot and if I were to go at it, it would be a cut and weld in a patch repair that most experts would say " not worth it" but to me its wasted effort repairing it any other way if at all.
