I`ve been plugging away at the body work on the Dart, taking a panel at a time and working it. Man I hate this stuff!! Here`s a couple pictures of my progress. Do I paint the roof if it`s getting a vinyl top? Here`s a pic of the roof with the #6 on it. I wonder what that`s about?

Wish I could come down, and help you with that John.....

.....NOT!!

You are doing a great job, it will be worth the headaches.

Man I love that car. Looking good. I would at least put a base coat (no clear) on the roof.

PITA for sure but it will be so fine and you will be so proud when youre done.body sure looks solid

I would paint the roof. If using a base coat-clear coat, I would also clear it. Base coat doesn't provide any protection, that's what the clear is for. Even though it will be scuffed up to glue the top on, I would still paint it.

Hey John, I don't envy you at all doing all that body work. I hate it too, and I'm never happy with the results. But I'm sure you will be more proud of it when it's done and someones complements you on it. Hopefully it will be worth it then.

john i think i'd put the top back on. i saw a 68 coronet r/t at carlisle this year that had the same color w/ black top and white stripes. it looked real mean!!!

Bill, don`t get my hopes up like that, I`m ready to hire some illegal aliens to help me sand this thing.

Adam - You NEED another A-body. When the family`s all straight, promise us you`ll take the plunge again.

Hello Bob, is that 340 rumbling yet? This ones getting it`s original GG1 dark green ,so it`s got to be really straight!!! I`ve had nightmares of block sanders, lol! Worth it? I hope so, we`ll see next spring.

Oh yes ,the top`s going back on, this ones going back as close to factory as I can get it, so the black vinyl top will go back on and the white stripe that runs the length of the car. The car will be painted GG1 dark racing green. The 6 on the top is intriguing though, what`s it mean? The 6th top he did that day, does 6 mean black top, is it how many joints he smoked that day, (the car was built during the summer of love)? Is 6 a code for something or nothing at all? It looks like I will paint the roof but I`m not going to go nuts on it, as mentioned it`ll have to be roughed up for the glue. It looks like Chrysler put the glue right on top of primer and just let her go like that.

Looking great John. Just spray the top with epoxy prmer as mentioned above & it will be sealed. It's too bad that mother mopar didn't pay as much attention to detail when the cars were new as they get when they are being restored. I have now idea what the 6 would be about. I've pulled a few vinyl tops off cars & haven't ran accross mumber s before. You could be onto something with the number of joints that day.lol anyway, car is looking great. Are you planning to take the car completely apart during your resto?

Hey Pat ,how`ve you been? I still haven`t found that fan spacer yet, lol! I`m really not planning to take the car completely apart but so far I`ve yanked the motor and rebuilt it, had the transmission gone through, rebuilt the entire suspension, rebuilt the brakes, recovered the seats, recarpeted, and installed a new headliner. It`s amazing how completely you can take a car apart when you don`t really mean to.:icon_smi:

Looking real good John! Love your darts year. Just remember if you haven't rubbed your fingers down to your knuckles yet..or your right arm isn't longer then your left you'll be just fine "someday" :D

Hey John, Still not running yet but I'm close.
I noticed that your looking for a fan spacer, I have one. What size are you looking for? Bob

Looking real good so far. Almost looks like oyu are as far on yours as I am on mine. And I am with you on hating body work. Keep up the good work

yea i hate to sand too. i had about 3/4 inch of bondo over the left rear 1/4 panel so that just made it that mush more fun. but look at it this way, does not look like you need to replace your 1/4 panel, like most of us. good luck.

I was looking for a fan spacer for Pat, aka 68383gts4spd, the little one.......... I think it`s 3/4". I have one somewhere in my garage ,just can`t find it. I need a team of archaeologists to excavate in there.................see what can be dug up.:icon_smi:

The passenger side`s got some rot around the wheelwell and it looks like there`s been a previous repair just above it. I`m pondering replacing the quarter. I guess when I strip it I`ll know better what needs to be done. It would be nice to keep the original metal if possible. I really enjoy the mechanics of this hobby but loathe the bodywork.:-& I guess it`s part of taking the good with the bad.

Hey John, Don't worry about that spacer, I finally got one. Sounds lke you've been very buy & productive. I am slowly in the process of working on my dart but had to have hernial surgery a week ago so all progress has come to a hault. The bottom, inner fenders, & insiude of my car are painted so far. Will be spring before my body guy can get back to finishing it. He just started a 70 AAR cuda for a friend of mine. I was lucky & got stuff on my car done bfore he started on the cuda. I have managed to get the rear suspension & rear axle back in it. Also got the k-frame back in. Im the process of dong the mustang rotor swap & have ran into major probelms as far a caliper firtment. I will have to get a hold of you some time & quiz you up on that & see waht you remember. Still have your # on my cell phone. I've been meaining to ask you if you ever got a change to get the lower radiator hose part number you used on your barracuda. How are your hood inserts? I've seen the pg classics repops & I must say, they are a thing of beauty. Looking great so far & will be a super nice car when finished!
