Well got a 72 duster with 4 piston front brakes (all new calipers, pads etc)...

but I have a bad booster (hard pedal, idle goes up, no brake assist!).

Rather than spending $100 something on another booster, which may not even work when I go with a large cam, I want to go manual.

Any kits out there to help with this? Or quick articles in assisting on what parts to look for/ what to modify? Thanks!

Far as I know, you need only a different master cylinder and connecting rod to pedal. You may get those through Classified parts wanted ad.

you also want the firewall support bracket that helped firm up the area around the master given the extra force on it with the manual setup

Consider master cylinder bore size when converting to manual brakes. Larger bore master cylinders are typically found on power brakes.

As master cylinder bore diameter increases, pedal pressure increases while pedal travel decreases for a given line pressure.

For manual brakes, most prefer master cylinder bore diameter less than 1" because it is easier to modulate the brakes.

Where do I get the connecting rod? what should I look for in summit?

Will this be in summit? what vendor would carry this?

You will need a manual brake pushrod. Only place to get one is used. If you want easy to get, try the adjustable one made by Mopar Performance. When I did mine, I had to shorten the rod twice until I got the brake pedal where I wanted it. Go to Moparts.com. On the race parts for sale there's a post by rick ehrenberg from Mopar action magazine he's selling new master cylinders with the adaptor for only $63 plus shipping. I paid $100 just for my M/c. I would recommend this brake mod to anyone.

What he said.

I did it to one of my darts and I will be doing it to my Duster in the near future.

DusterDon & 340Dart,
Please help me understand. Y'all switched from power brakes to a manual brake system? A serious question for you, why?
Thanks,
C

chris408, I have a manual master cylinder and pushrod I just took off my dart. If you need them let me know, I've got no use for them now. The car was a driver with only 52000 miles, so the parts are good.

Lots of reasons. Just to name a few: don't really need power brakes with the light weight of a-bodies; won't have enough vacuum with a big cam; cleans up the engine compartment big-time (better access to the driver-side valve cover. Heck, really don't need power steering either. I'm even doing without ac in socal even though we do get some warm weather in the late summer months. Got to have that clean engine look.:burnout:

Master power sells a manual brake pushrod that's far superior in My opinion.
I had the mopar performance Piece and I had to shorten it considerably.
I got one from master power (came in My manual brake conversion kit) and with the threads turned in all the way it fit perfect right of the bat in My 72 Dart . It's a heavier piece also and it does not require all the shims that are a pain in the A$$ to align.
Just My 2c
