Hunting lately

My son Chris got his deer yesterday. About 110 lb doe, but he was happy with it. He was only able to hunt Saturdays and Thanksgiving this year, and it had rained every chance he had to go out, except yesterday.

He called me Friday night, and asked where he should go. I told him I'd go to my stand if it was me, and if he wanted, I'd go with him.

My stand is the 1st place he ever hunted, and we went there until he was old enough to go on his own. That's where he saw his 1st buck, and had his first case of buck fever. He shook so bad that he couldn't lift the gun, or even turn his head.

It was a cold breezy morning, with everything iced up, and spitting snow. The deer usually come through around the same time, and sure enough, they didn't disappoint. I heard the ice break from the 1st deer, then more ice breaking, from the deer that followed. I told Chris where to watch for them to come out of the swamp, and to wait to see if there were any bucks. No bucks were with them, so he watched my shooting lanes, and took one of the does. He made a nice 50yd shot with his 7mm rem mag, double lung and liver.

Sitting in the stand yesterday, brought back many memories of past seasons. I enjoy hunting and fishing, but when all's said and done, I guess it is about the memories. Guess I'm showing my age. Tim
