As the new hemi's both 5.7 and 6.1 only come with the mercedes auto gearbox from the factory I was wondering what MANUAL gearboxes on the market would be able to be bolted up to these engines. I am aware Keisler do conversions for the new hemi cars but are they only suited to these vehicles?

I am wanting to put the new hemi into my A body 73 valiant charger, I should mention I live in Australia. Is there any gearbox on the market you could buy that would hook up to the new hemi? I am aware the new challenger coming out has a 6spd manual is this a t56? I assume like used behind the new Pontiac GTO's with the LS1/2 which are known as Holden Monaro's over here in Australia.

See link for gearbox mentioned

If it was a gearbox like this it would make the job much easier as these gearboxes are readily available over here due to our HOLDEN COMMODORES/MONAROS have had these gearboxes for the past 9 years or so since the LS1, possibly before that too.

I'm aware the auto gearbox they come with could be made to fit with tunnel and crossmember modifications but if I am going to do that I'd rather have a 6spd manual in there (always prefer a manual car as my fun car) and I know that you can bolt the 727 straight up to them but I'd rather see whats available on the manual scene first.

Any insight/info would be great.

Cheers, Dave

The bolt pattern on the back of the engine is the same as the LA and Magnum engines. Anything that bolts up to one of those will bolt to the 5.7/6.1

from what i read,,the new challenger and camaro are going to use the same 6 speed gear box,, with all the same parts,, at least thats what i was told by some one dealing in the tremec market,,,they are trying to make it all interchange,, and it would make it cheaper for both GM and mopar to manufracture,,these cars with a manual box,,,tremec is currently the easest way to put a manual box if you want a 6 speed in your A body with a modern hemi,,or use a mopar 4 speed

Try http://www.quicktimeinc.com/products.html for a SFI blow-proof rated, spun-forged bellhousing.

I have RM-6071 MOPAR Bellhousing/TKO 500-600/T5 Mustang/TR3550 for my upcoming T-5 swap. You may be interested in RM-6070 MOPAR Bellhousing/Chevy Transmission if you are sourcing a Holden transmission.

I have one of the first production runs of the RM-6071. It is a niece piece of engineering. I have heard great feedback from others on Quicktime's quality.

By the way, 3gen hemi in Dodge Trucks had the Chrysler designed & built 545RFE auto. It is a derivative of the 45RFE auto but has two overdrive ratios and uses 5 ratios in its normal shift sequence. The M-B sourced auto is the W5A580.

Likely the same T56 tranny that is currently used in Corvettes and Vipers. Nothing new about this, GM and Ford both used T5's and GM installed A833's in some pickups. Axles and transfer cases are another item that have crossed manufactures over the years.

Thanks for the info guys. Muchly appreciated. I'd say it is the same transmission as in corvettes and vipers.

Cheers guys, dave

There Are 2 Tremec T-56,, One Being The One Used In Last Generation Camaro And Firebird,, And The T-56 Viper Spec,,they Are 2 Different Boxes,,the Viper Spen Box Has The Viper Logo On It ,and Is Rated At A Higher Torque Level,,
T-56 Viper Spec In Viper And Corvette And Cadilac Road Racing Cars

Are the manual transmissions in the dakotas any good? I thought they had a 5 speed manual transmission option.

I just realised in that case of the bellhousings on that website the clutch fork would be on the opposite side as you have left hand drive cars, where mine is right hand drive. Damn

RIGHT HAND drive car,,no problem,,use a hydrulic slave cylinder,, that will take care of that problem

sorry for the delay,, i have been out of town,,,

the hyd slave cylinder,,will work off of a master cylinder that has the correct volume, attached to your clutch pedal, with a slave cylinder mounted down on your bell housing,it will attach to your fork comming out of the bell housing that operates your thro out bearing,,,deleteing you linkage, and making more room under the car,,also the orignal 63/66 clutch fork isnt very heavey duty,,so it is an improvement all around,,,

you will have to make the brackets to mount the slave cylinder to your bel housing,, there is no kit that i know of that is a direct bolt in,,,

but if you do a search on this site,,and probably big block dart,, and moparts im sure there is plenty of info on this topic,,sweaty betty on this site had some pics and info on this topic posted ,,he did it on a 66 barracuda,,
