Anyone know of a S. California transmission shop they would recommend? I need to build a 727 for my 440 project.

Trying to decide whether to go with someone local or a Torqueflite specialist like Cope Racing, Andrews, or SMR

Thanks
john

Have you talked to Mancini Racing? I think that`s what the elder Mancini does now is build their transmissions.

Thousand Oaks, that is like northern So.Cal! Anyway, I got a 904 rebuilt and it was nice, turns out the guy was a AF/X racer long ago and raced Mopars! The shop is in Costa Mesa, on Harbor Blvd in the 1600 block. sorry I dont know the shop name, but If I get down there, Ill drop the address and name. Mind you, this was almost 10 years ago, so...How about a crate 727 from PAW, pretty close in Chatsworth for a will call.

I had a full pro job done on my 727 through Bob Lambeck a former MOPAR drag racer. He had a place in Lancaster rebuild mine. I constantly launch at 400+ foot pounds of torque and its been fine for over 8 years. It has taken a lot of abuse and is still tight.

The name of the shop is either AA or AAA Transmissions in Lancaster. If you need I can call up Bob and find out their phone number.

you may try calling troy at westoaks chry. he's givin me alot of info thru the years.i'm in moorpark and i agree there's not alot around here for mopar trans rebuild.
thanks

Hey all,

Thanks for all the tips. I think i'm going to go see Troy at Westoaks and seek his advice.

Worst case, i may bite the freight bullet and order from a respected place like Cope Racing or Mancini.

What about Protrans out in Lancaster area. They build some bad arse transmissions for the stock/super stock guys.

Don't know about a-1 in Canoga Park/Chatsworth area

I would think Lambeck sent you to Protrans.

Troy will probably send you to Protrans. Lots of the trick trans stuff is made by them I here. Protrans seems like overkill, but benchwork trans' locally might not be much cheaper.

John, I talked to Troy about your car a little today.

Steve,

I'll definitely mention you when i get the chance to meet him for some parts - i appreciate the heads-up. Looks likes Pro-Trans may be be the best local choice....now if i could only get some free time off work to check them out (i prefer meeting face to face vs. phone if at all feasible)

I had PM'ed you regarding the 8 3/4 rearend you knew about. Did you receive it? (my first time using the PM feature).

One other place that may work for you distance -wise is Remac in San Dimas. They race what they build. Ask for Leo, he's the owner. In addition, although Moshers does not do any piece work, they do have a wiz-bang kid working there that really knows his way around a Chrysler transmission- Steve Benoit(pronounce ben-wa). He sometimes tackles work on the side.
