I am looking for some advice from fellow members on whether 15" rims with 3.5" backspacing and 60 series tires will fit my 69 Barracuda. Unfortunately the car is striped down to the shell with no suspension so I cannot mock up the dimensions and measure the clearances. The specs for the wheel and tire combo I have available are as follows

Front 15x6 3.5 inch backspace 215-60-15 tires
Rear 15x8 3.5 inch backspace 245-60-15 tires

This is a stock suspension car, stock disc brakes with power steering. In the rear is an 8 3/4 with stock leaf springs and stock leaf spring hangers.

Most mag wheels I have seen spoken of here on this site have had greater backspacing.

Thanks for your input before I commit to the purchase.

I would get 15 x 7 wheels with 4.5" backspacing for the rear.

slip them under the car with a half inch clearance on the outside and measure inside wheel to inside wheel and then look up axle specs at mopartsshould have a flange to flange measurement

Thanks for the suggestions. These are not wheels I own but have the ability to buy. I was going to use the feedback here over a few days to help me make up my mind if I should go for it or not since I cannot take any measurements.

Anyone with other comments or the ability to measure on their project cars would also be welcomed.

Thanks

Anyone else with suggestions or information on these specs? Otherwise I will pass on the sheels and tires.

Thanks

I Have A 72 Duster With A 8 3/4 Rear End Stock Leafs. I Have The Largest Wheels On My Car That I Can Put On With A 7 Inch Rim. 245/60 And Fronts Are 215/60. Hope This Helps In Making Up Your Mind. 15 Inch.

Not sure if this will help you but I have run 15x8 Cragars with a P255/60/15" tire with a 4.250" backspace and I am currently running some 15x7 cop wheels which I believe are 4.250 backspace as well?? ....(is that correct on the cop wheels guys?) using a P245/60/15" tire. Springs in stock location and had plenty of room. I do not think any of this will matter but wanted to point out that when I ran the 15x8 setup described above, I had small bolt pattern. When I switched to the cop wheels my setup changed to the large bolt pattern. Pretty much the largest tire you will be able to fit upfront will be the P215/60/15" tire due to the small wheel well. Upfront I ran a 4" backspace and also a 4.125 backspace with zero issues running that tire size. Good Luck! In fact, if other guys chime in as to what the backspace is on the cop wheels I have now (Im thinking 4.250") you are safe to use those as well....See pics cuzzz thats what I run.

Suregrup, you're right about the backspacing being 4.25 on the cop car wheels. I've got 4 of them for my dart (71). Just a sidenote, I've got 225/60-15's on the front with no issues. Oh yeah, Ive got some serious hub cap issues right now! I wish I could find a set of those with the holes in them.

LOL.....a bit off topic but my wife told me those cop caps (with the holes) gives her the creeps! She said the holes remind her of something out of a movie where creepy crawly worms will wiggle out of and attack her. She needs to stop watching TV!....Had to share. :) :yawinkle: Here's a set for you on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOPA...ryZ34209QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Not mine, but have bought from him in the past. Good guy. Sorry for the off topic.....back on track!

Since most of you are running > 4" backspacing I guess I will pass on the 3.5" backspacing I had considered purchasing.

Thanks for the feedback.

Santa brought me 15x8 Ralley wheels with 4.5" back spacing. I mocked them up on my 68 Barracuda yesterday. The rims are 9" wide outside lip to outside lip. They have 1" clearance from the spring and over an 1" clearance to the wheel well lip.

I plan to mount 255/60 tires on them.

so my 15x7's with 4 inch backspace should work with 245/60r15's on my 69 valiant without mods correct?

Don't know. Barracuda's have bigger rear wheel wells than Darts and Valients.

Best be is to borrow a 15x7 wheel and put it on.
