Pilot bearing

Does anyone know what the best solution for my 72 360. I don't think that my crank is drilled for a pilot bearing and i don't know if there is a beter way that to remove the crank and have it drilled. Any suggestions would be great. [-o<
 
I believe they all have a hole drilled in the end but it may not be the finished size for the pilot busing. If that is the case NAPA has a special thin wall pilot bushing you could use. Don't knwo what the p/n is but I am sure someone will.

The other solution is the late model truck uses a roller bearing that fits into the torque convertor register. If there is no hole at all you may have cut some of the end off the input shaft on the tranny.
 
that article about the tremec 5 speed conversion mentioned this... let me see where it is. they said it used some kind of roller bearing and the kit could be used with any motor (auto or manual crank that is) without machine work...

im pretty sure it was what dgc333 just said about the truck roller bearing.
 
mopar part# 53008180AB. it fits where the hub of the converter sat in, has a roller bearing insert, fits almost all mopar cranks from slant 6 to big blocks. its also cheap too--currently lists at 12.95 at your local dealer.

if you buy this bearing--you can drill the end of the crank by hand without worry of being accurate. just drill untill your up to approxametly the second knuckle on your index finger, hammer the bearing in, and your done. dont cut the shaft on the trans---its bad for possible re-sale in the future.

Thank you very much for the part number and all the information. this will make my install much easier and the cheap part will make it easier to explain to the wife.
