does anyone know which tranny i would have bolted behind my 225 slant six and what kinda mods i could do to improve my shifts they are really sluggish :sleepy4:

904. You could put a good shift kit in it. The Trans-go kits are the only ones Id buy.

There were 727's put behind slant six cars too. What you need to do is look at the pan, if it juts out a little where the dipstick tube is then it's a 727, if it's just straight then it's a 904. Both utilize the same valve body though, the only thing that might stop you from putting a 727 valve body in a 904 or vice versa is the middle rear attaching bolt hole in the separator plate might be for just one application or the other. The hole in the separator plate can be elongated though as most all the shift kits with replacement plates have the hole elongated to fit either trans.

Are you sure about this? I thought 727's only went behind the slants when they were put into trucks or vans?

I'm sure alright, I had a 71 Dart Swinger, slant six, disc brakes, 8 3/4 limited slip and a 727, all factory.

I rebuilt transmissions at a Chrysler dealer for over 12 years and I've seen more than a few of these.

So it must have been part of some sort of sport package? 8 3/4's behind automatics are pretty rare also as far as A-bodies go.

they were used in...tow package, civil service package..... and did you also know that chrysler in 73-76 put factory rear swaybars under slant six and 318 dart police cars/taxis ? i once talked to a guy who remembers a town in new york that crushed a fleet of 10 of them in the late 70s.....most were heavy duty slant six 4 drs with all this stuff but there was a couple 318 ones...all were 4drs...

Actaully I did hear that before. I have talked to other Dart Sport owners who had rear sway bars.

i would recomend the Trans Go shiftkit to its realy good! and if yuo combine it with a masterkit your transmision will be like new again but better!

You could just drill the stock plate and turn up line pressure save the money on shift kit . works just as well. l
