Sparky's Swinger

-
Definitely suppose to be there. I had some surface rust starting there and the filler was all nasty. Got all the filler out, sanded, smoothed, and primered. Looks purty now.

Sparky, when you get a chance, snap some photos of the bad frame rail and let us have a lookie-see. I did a good sized section of my left front rail on the 66 Vart last summer by cutting out the bad and welding in all new metal. You can't even tell it's been repaired, and there isn't even any primer on it yet. If done correctly, the welded area should be even stronger than the original rail, and far superior to a cap.

Hope to move it over on to the lift next week and prepare to pull the motor. I,ll clean things up and take some pics.
Thanks

good looking project Sparky, The tach on the scoop is different, Hope you keep it. I would imagine there aren't to many darts with that. Green for a color will look good, but then I kind a like green darts!

I already have a couple of pics of your car on file, that green looks very good on the dart, and the tach is staying for sure.:-D

I just went back and reread the thread Sparky. I see you are sold on a green of some sort. I will have to get a pic of the green that is on my painters pro-street Fairlane. It is really awesome. It is a dark, but not to dark pearl and it is the nicest green I have ever seen.

Please do that Jack, I do like the greens for sure, there are so many nice colors out there now it will be a tough decision. It took me forever to pick the color for the Barracuda but it turned out(i think) real nice. Paint is a long way off but I am open to all suggestions.
Yes we are up to are arses in snow out here, not getting anything done this weekend, two Montreal afternoon games on CBC and the Super bowl happening too.

Time to update my progress, have not been out to the shop for a week, to busy with the snow blower, and guess what it is snowing again. I have noticed a few things compared to when I started on the Barracuda back in 99-2000. I can still bend over but getting back up is a problem. Light, I need light. I have lights that attach to my hat and ones that wrap around my head and safety glasses with lights attached to them and flashlights in my mouth, and trouble lights hanging everywhere. Then I have to put on a pair of 200 horse power cheater glasses just to see what type of screw I'm trying to remove. Still loads of fun to this and always a learning experience.
Started taking the interior out. Found some very nice rear panels under the veluor but the fronts are gone. Nice clear stamp on the back of the panel. Arm rest pads are in pretty good condition also. The floor is solid, but I will require a new dash pad as someone dug their finger in to the old one. I plan on making a black interior no matter what the exterior ends up being.

Ah duh, forgot to post the pics.

Have a question regarding the emblems. I am used to seeing speed nuts on these. As you can see there are sleeves on these making a friction fit, was this a factory thing or has someone altered these. I am also in the market for one new Dart emblem.

Those plastic sleeves on the studs of the emblems is stock/factory. My Scamp has those on all emblems and I know my grandmother never took them off the car before I restored it last year.

I bought new ones from RT Specialties.

Thanks, I figured that was probably the case, they will go on my things I need list.

Time for an update. We yanked the motor out o Friday night. The only real battle we had was with the last two header bolts on the drivers side. I can now call it "blood ,sweat and tears" I sheared a small wart clean off my index finger knuckle which may me bleed, then several beads of sweat formed on my brow, then I cried for a little bit.
As it turns out, the block is a 1973 with Z heads? The # stamped on the motor is 3b404335, the last 8 digits of the vin I believe. It also has a 2.8.73 on it as well as 2780930-340-5, not sure what that is. I have yet to pull a valve cover to check the number under there, I think it is a casting number for the heads.
The 73 motor was a 245 hp version of the 340. I know this motor has been built up in the 1980s. I have been told by a quite a few people including the guy who built the motor that it was a petty hot 340. This prompted me to start digging through all he receipts the PO gave me.
It has a LD 340 intake,
Purple Shaft Cam 284,284 , 0.471 intake,0.474 exhaust "Street Hemi Grind" (what does that mean?)
Have not checked the number on the carb, probably a 750 cfm.
Electronic ignition.
Eagle Gold Label Headers, installed in 1987 and they are still solid and I plan on reusing them,(allen head bolts next time)
Speed Pro Pistons, have not looked up the par # yet.
Transgo TF-2 shift kit
B&M Quicksilver shifter
391 gears.
There is a receipt with grease, finger prints and bad writing that says something about milling the heads and some valve work, maybe an angle grind or something.
Don't know what else has been done, although I have many receipts, some are unreadable.
I think the Z heads are a 360 head.
The plan is to put a gasket kit in it, paint it, replace a few ugly parts on it and put it in the Barracuda while the rest of the dart gets worked on. This will allow me to freshen up the Cuda motor as it is leaking all over the place and I would like to put a different cam in and eventually install the TTI headers I have had sitting in a box for 3 years.
Took a bunch of pics, here are a few.

Also found two build sheets in the car. They are exactly the same except for the vehicle sequence and order # on the top left. Is this Odd? Has anyone come across his before?

One was under the back seat, stuck up in the metal, you can see the pattern on it, the other was under the carpet if I remember correctly.
