What are my options for the Hooker headers for the small blocks. I bought an oil filter relocation kit and it will not work because the way it threads on to the block-the hose inlets end up facing the front of the motor instead of the back when tightened(I tried to thread it on several time and it always tightens to the same spot) -the hoses don't have room to attach behind the headers.

Do I look for a 90 degree filter adapter-and if so where do I find one?

thanks
Al.

Ebay has several of them. Post a want ad here on this site, you will find one! Aslo make sure to get a gasket kit (3 diff gaskets total), ebay has them or get them at your local dodge dealership. Make sure to get a steel adapter, I have heard the aluminum ones tent to crack or warp.

I have a steel one on my 1966 Valiant 340 with Hooker supercomp fenderwall headers, tight clearance but it is a must! Make sure to seal it up good. mine leaks and i need to fix it. I have to slip the front header tube off just to get on the mounting nut, good thing the tubes slide into the collector! It can be a real PITA!

Have you tried a smaller Oil filter, such as the ones used on the 2.0 SOHC neons in the mid to late 90's smaller diameter, less depth, same sealing o-ring. Just a thought? I think it is a ph3614 fram, but don't quote me. I know it is a vo25 valvoline.

I went and picked up the small Fram filter on the way home from work and it looks small enough to fit. I'm going to try it later-thanks for the advice!

What Headers Do You Have? I Could't Get Even The Smalleset 2.2 Litre One To Fit.

I used the filter adapter, and a remote dual filter setup. I mounted my filters in the little factory indentation on the passenger side opposite the battery box. I also put another oil pressure gauge on the filter block just for the quick look when the hood is up.

I have the factory 90' adapter on, took it off my 273. I use Napa gold filter, it crosses to a Fram 3600. It is about the diameter of a 3614 but as long as a PH8A. I can take it out from the top, have to pull the trans dipstick out, not the tube. Oh the joys of owning an early V8 A with headers!!!!!!!!!!!!

hemidart1,

I am using a Moroso adapter - it works well but hard to get a picture of! 1st pix is of the adapter... 2nd is the remote filter.

I've got the Hooker semi fenderwell headers. If the small filter doesn't fit I'll have to get the adapter.

Use a Wix 51335. you will be amazed at the room you will have and you won't have the agravation of the 90 degree adapter.

The mopar 90 degree adapter clears the TTI headers on my 65 Dart/360. However, the 3/4 inch hollow bolt (with 1 3/16" hex head) must at least have the head thinned down to approximately 1/8" (per TTI). Header clearance is still very tight, and there is no wrench room to tighten the adapter in the event of a leak.
Examples of this adapter that I have seen have been generally poorly machined and some are poorly cast as well. Of particular concern is the mating surfaces of the bolt-to-housing area. However, you can't argue with success...they have done their job on many engines.
After my adapter leaked (forcing me to remove the passenger headers for repairs), I remachined the adapter. I removed approximately 1/16" from BOTH block side sealing surfaces, and approximately 5/16" from the bolt shoulder sealing surface. Total clearance gained about 3/8". I removed rough casting material from around the bolt head to provide clearance for a thinned box wrench. I cleaned up flash around internal oil passages. I unshrouded the two lower oil holes in the bolt (just above bolt threads) to allow for more oil flow. I sleeved the sloppy bolt head end of the adapter and finally installed upper and lower viton O-rings on the bolt itself. I used a teflon washer under the bolt head. (However, I recommend a dead soft copper washer).
Remachining this adapter is a little tricky, and requires proper setup and some patience to do. The rationale for doing this is that it eliminates cumbersome and potentially leaky plumbing, along with the hassle of finding repair parts when something fails. Mopar came up with a super simple way of relocating the oil filter, but you can improve upon it and make it work for you.

PICS???

I tried the small filter and it does fit! It is real close to one header pipe though. I'm getting a 90 degree adapter just in case.

K&N filter# 2009. It fits the V6 and V8 Dakotas. It has a welded nut if you can't use the filter wrench.
