Iv'e got a freshly rebuilt 4 speed, any recommendations for oil?
Manual states 140 weight, or 80/90 for cold climate.
I'm leaning towards the 90, would take forever to get the 140 in.

hi, a good quality synthetic gear oil will work the best. it will lubricate in the cold as well when it's hot. 140 and 90 do not lube when it's cold, the trans will run dry till the oil gets hot. this is the leading cause of trans wear.
I've used synthetic geat oil in my trans for years. there's no wear.
mobil or conaco, are two very good quality gear oils.

there was a service buliten back in the 70 to use a good atf in the 4 speeds i have used it for many years with out any problems last year changed to the new syn gear oil and had shifting problems went back to syn atf problems gone

Regardless of what weight oil you decide on, they sell these cool little pumps at the parts stores for about $4 that screw right onto the top of gear oil bottles, with a long hose you can direct the flow through. It even comes with an adapter or two to fit other sized bottles. It makes that messy job a lot easier than trying to hold a funnel under there.

Thanks guys, just spent the last hour covering myself in Castrol Syntec 75/90gear oil, thanks for the advice, CudaChick, wish I'd read your post 2 hours ago, that pump sounds good, have to get one of them.
