Painting fiberglass hood

I've got an AAR 6pack hood. I doesn't require special prep. You can scuff the gel coat with 220 and lay down some primer. I used epoxy first but you could start with surfacer. The AAR hoods are very good but not perfect. I fixed some low spots first (around the scoop).

Once the surface is prepped you can lay down some sealer followed by your top coat. People use a lot of different things for the black. PPG/Ditzler’s modern version of the “Organisol Black” formula - DCC-9355, is available too.

Consider grounding the hood somehow when you paint it. The fiberglass generates static electricity which is a magnet for dust.
