Yeah, cracked (pirated) software can save you a lot of money. It can also whack your PC so badly it'll make ya cry (especially if you've lost a lot of cool Mopar info/pics/etc on it!), and where "nuking and paving" (blowing away everything and reloading Windows) is your only resort. I'm fortunate enough to live near Silicon Valley and have a friend that works at Adobe, so he'll be getting me Photoshop CS3 for $40(his price). A quick trip to eBag shows close to $600 (!!!!!!) for a new copy of CS3. You can find legit copies of Photoshop 7 for around $200, which is good for older PC's, though.

As far as tutorials go, I've never found a better one than THE PHOTOSHOP BIBLE.
It's from the UK, so you'll see a bunch of Euro rides in the tutorial, but the info is great and easy to follow.
