One of the first thing to be done is apply Dyna-mat (or something comparable...) to my firewall and floorboards during re-assembly. Anyone know the square footage for an A body? I'm thinking 100sq. ft. since I need to do the rear cargo area in my fastback. Also, any local guys in the NY-NJ area know of a cheap source for the mat? Online it's about $1 per sq. ft.

Thanks!

im going to do the same thing,, on my cuda soon,,let me know how it works out,,there are so many heat/sound deadening products on the makets now

I just go to the Home Depot and buy hot water tank insulating kits. Good insulation with a metallic back. Don't know how it compares to dynamat, but that's what I use.

Hmm... interesting idea! I'll have to check it out.

THANKS!!!!!!!

John, I used 1 "box" of the Dynamat extreme just to do the floor in my Duster. So you surely count on another full box to do the trunk area. Add a 3rd box for doing the roof and doors etc. Keep in mind this stuff is heavy about 40lbs a box.

Hope this helps, Eric

I used a product called HushMat, similar to Dynamat, but my buddy can get it cheaper through a wholesaler.

It took almost 40 sq ft to do my floor boards from the firewall to the lip by the back seat. Added 26 lbs. I bought another 40 sq ft to do the doors and roof area.

I bought it mostly to fight the heat, but will also appreciate the difference in road noise.

How much do you need to cover the whole 1964 Barracuda?
Anyone?

BRIAN T: where did your buddy get the discounted Hushmat?

Thank you in advance...

i agree the water heater stuff sounds intresting,,, all i want to do ,,is block some of the heat from the fire wall area and the exhaust pipes, blower motor makes a ton of heat in a black on black car,,,

ive seen stuff at street rod events that blocks over 1000 degrees of heat,,but is very costly and heavy,,
any one have any idea what the temp limit is on the dyna mat ??

I've used dynamat in the past to cover entire sections of the floorboard. To be quite honest, I wasn't impressed. It neither decreased decibel levels nor did it lower temperatures enough to justify the high cost. The day I do my '67 cuda I'll have my floorboards rhinolined.

Rob

I have used ceramic coatings on the floors and fire wall before and had good results. There are several manufactures of this type of product like "Lizard skin". I have coated my floor with this and then am going to put dynamat over that.
