I would say the reason that is said is because they were a performance engine. 318/360 were put in many different vehicles by Ma Mopar because they were considered utility engines. 340s were never put in lower end, low performance vehicles. The reason the 340 was designed was to race... PERIOD. This is why 340s are in a class of their own.
